[ The terror when he realized he had been too late, that the burden of the sun had prevented him from making it in time; even after years, he'd still been considered such a fledgling. The lethargic nature of his limbs, the scent of smoke, the standing there too late as the house had consumed Caleb and his family and he'd fallen to his knees as grief completely wrapped around him. No, despite Caleb's words-- Essek still could not absolve himself of that though he would speak no more of it.

He'd done the only thing he could've, become better-- faster and stronger. Far more equipped to face whatever it was that came his way. He had thralls, people who protected his interest, his reach extended within even the sphere of daylight; technology had made it easier.

Bren would be protected this time, and that delicate soul that veined upward throughout his mate's, his husband's. The air that this man breathed was precious to him, had always been; and he would fight to make sure that existence continued to breath, to live. ]
Why do you look so surprised, Caleb Widogast?

[ Essek shifted just a bit; now he was wearing one of Bren's shirts now, just as he had worn Caleb's. A tunic that barely skirted the top of his thigh, leaving just enough concealed unless he stretched upward. Those palms came to rest against naked chest and then he slowly made a gliding circle against it. ] No doubt this body is exhausted, but surely you can understand that I am a little bit greedy to be with my husband again-- it has been so long. [ And Essek made a little mrrrrh of satisfaction at the way that Caleb responded, favorably, to his actions; he would've stopped if there had been any sign of discomfort.

There was also a little bit of drow heat thrown into the mix which invariably had been triggered by the proximity to Bren's very feral pheremones. Looks like Caleb may have woken up at the perfect time, though Essek was nothing if not careful and considerate. ]
If you are too tired though, I also understand..
